The Metis Line

Introduction
The benefits of taking time out are widely recognised and accepted - for example sabbatical leave, gap year or career breaks to give a few examples from modern Western society. Whilst such a time is without doubt beneficial to the individual it can be of even greater value if the time is also used in a way that brings benefit to others as well - and indeed may be a requirement in cases such as sabbaticals and certainly desirable in other cases. Ideally such activities would not be prescribed but would be decided on by each person since it is this that makes it real, meaningful and personal.
Kondo Syokai has believed for a long time that one of the more effective ways of taking time out, to challenge and develop oneself, to gain new insights and ideas, is to do this based on a suitable sailing vessel. If the time was also used to do something beneficial for others then that would be a very great achievement indeed. After considering this for several years Kondo Syokai has now taken the initiative to make this a reality.
The first step was to task Kondo Syokai Marine to specify a suitable ultra low cost ocean going yacht, which they have done. The Blue Michi Gazelle - which is based on several years experience of building and sailing this type of vessel - is suited to a wide range of sailing activities including group activities, and is capable of being used and maintained in areas of the world where there are no yachting support services.
The second step was to set up the Metis Line as the operation to encourage the use of these vessels in supporting people taking time out and most importantly to sponsor them when the time is used to benefit the community.
So this is the primary purpose of the Metis Line:
It might be that people come up with other uses for the yachts that are innovative and can truly be of benefit to others. Again the Metis Line will consider any such use and where appropriate will sponsor the activity. In any case, activities benefitting the community and accepted by the Metis Line operation for sponsorship are referred to as Privileged Operations.
